The Starlite Ramblers Band was formed in the spring of 1975 in Greeley , Colorado . The original members were Jerry Wood, Steve Fahl, Jon Floth, and Johnny Wells. They called themselves the “New Starlite Ramblers” and played “hard core” Country music when Country Rock was the big thing. Michael Golden and Tim McDonald joined the band in 1976 and brought a stronger western influence to the music and the great vocal harmony the “Ramblers” became known for. The Ramblers expanded their playing area to out of state clubs and performed five or Jhonny Wells Steve Fahl Jon Floth Jerry Wood Tim (Levi) McDonald Michael Golden six nights a week. Their music was influenced heavily by Western Swing King, Bob Wills, and traditional cowboy songs by the Sons of the Pioneers. The group's first album “1977” was recorded in Johnstown , Colorado , in a garage studio and featured the original song “Freight Train” by Tim (Levi).

By 1978 Jon Floth and Johnny Wells had left the band and Carmen Rizzo soon replaced Well's as the new drummer. The group was a favorite at many Colorado ski resort nightclubs with their high energy shows that appealed to both country music fans and even the non country fans as well. Gorton's Saloon in Vail, Colorado, regularly booked the Ramblers because they would easily draw a sell out crowd of hundreds of rowdy faithful fans who usually ended up stumbling down the streets singing their old cowboy songs. Needless to say, things have changed a bit in Vail but the Rambler's would still be the band to hear after a day on the slopes. The Ramblers were noticeably versatile and were equally at home in fine show clubs like the Aspen , Colorado 's' Red Onion and performing with and for many well known celebrities. In 1979, Ben “Buzz” Murray replaced Carmon Rizzo on drums. With Buzz on board the final piece of the Rambler puzzle was in place. The Ramblers then recorded their first live album “Aint It the Truth” at Panama Red's in Fort Collins , Colorado , featuring several songs by Gary McMahan and the fan favorite “The Auctioneer”, performed by lead singer Michael Golden. The Ramblers were known then as a “party hardy” band in many college towns bringing the house down with their “disco sucks” attitude. Michael's innovative and sensational showmanship set the Ramblers apart from all the other “Urban Cowboy” bands.

In 1980 the Rambler Band began writing and recorded their first all original album titled, “It's Enough To Make A Cowboy Out Of You” the album was recorded at the world famous Caribou Ranch Studio in just five days. The title song “It's Enough to Make a Cowboy Out Of You” written by Steve Fall and “Colorado Rose” written by Michael Golden, received heavy radio play on many local stations. The Band became a major draw as an opening act for major concerts and also large clubs like “The Turn of the Century” in Denver Colorado . The Ramblers had a wonderful and supportive team that took good care of them, full time Manager, Keith Stoner, and the road crew of Levi gettin' down !Aaron Stephens and Jeff Johnson, made keeping up with a more demanding schedule possible. Over a period of three nights in 1981, a fourth album was recorded “Live at Apples” in Longmont , Colorado, containing fan favorites such as “Buckskin Lady”" and "Clementine" featuring Levi McDonald, “The Night Life” with Jerry Wood on vocals and Michael Golden's version of “Cowboy Honeymoon.” That same year Jon Floth passed on in 1981 from health complications, an event that would change the Ramblers forever, and inspire Michael to write “Palomino Pal of Mine." Jon was a long time friend of all and is missed by many musicians and friends.

The Ramblers popularity continued to grow in 1983, but without the support of a major record label, the stress of the music business on the band members and their families became too great. Levi moved to the family farm in Iowa , Buzz went to Jacksonville, Florida , and Steve went into the car business. Michael and Jerry pursued joint musical interests for several years.
